It was really shocking to hear it from a Facebook Insider. Brian Acton, the co-founder of WhatsApp has recently posted a tweet on his Twitter account that included a hashtag “#deletefacebook”.
Being one of the executives at Facebook premises, Brian’s tweet has created a big shock to people around the world. Let me explain you the reason behind Brian Acton’s Tweet.
Brian Acton has sold WhatsApp to Facebook earlier in 2014 for $19 billion and he worked there until last year.
What made Brian post such a Tweet?
The sudden opposition of Brian Acton to Facebook is something that was bothering the search giant for a past few days. The CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg was wrong to discount allegations that Facebook used to impact presidential election results (2016). On the other hand, Last Friday Facebook had suspended Cambridge Analytica from the platform for misusing the data.
It was found that the company has amassed the personal information of 50 million users that were linked to Donald Trump presidential election campaign donor Robert Mercer and Steve Bannon. It was noticed that the data was used to target voters rather than academic research.
Since the revelation of these issues, Facebook’s market cap has noticed a huge fall of $50 billion and yet Mark Zuckerberg remains silent. It was witnessed that Mark had not even participated in the emergency all-hands meeting. Investigations are still in progress and both the firms have announced that they have planned to launch their own audits into the matter.
And that’s the reason behind Brian Acton’s accusing tweet. By the way, Brian Acton did not respond to Business Insider’s request for his tweet.
Here is the tweet from @brianacton stating “It is time to #deletefacebook”…
Facebook has also declined the comment.
Let us wait to know what Brian actually means, “Is he asking Facebook users to delete their accounts??!!” Still an unanswered question. Waiting for a reply from the premises. Fingers crossed.
